Chaos in the Krill Oil Market
March 12, 2025

As enter 2025, with consumers' growing pursuit of health, Chiti has grandly launched new krill oil raw materials and soft capsules. In the in-depth research on the krill oil market, we were surprised to find that the brand owners' understanding of krill oil was shallow, which was even more shocking.

Many brands' krill oil products have low phospholipid content, but the content of EPA and DHA is ridiculously high, which makes people wonder: Are these brands secretly mixed with cheaper fish oil under the banner of pure krill oil?

On the Amazon details page of a certain brand, we witnessed a "drama" of content comparison. Brand A tried to compete with the two major brands with a phospholipid content of up to 40% with a product containing 800mg of phospholipids per 3000mg, which is only 27%. When we tried to explore the reason for Brand A's confidence, we found that its DHA and EPA content was also lower than that of its competitors.

Such chaos is everywhere, revealing the lack of brand awareness of krill oil products, which leads to the chaos in the market.

Chiti solemnly reminds: the key indicator of krill oil is phospholipids. Common specifications on the market are As for EPA and DHA, the content in krill oil is actually not as high as fish oil, which may be the reason why many manufacturers do not hesitate to mix fish oil into krill oil in order to improve these two indicators. This move not only increases the EPA and DHA content of the product, but also greatly reduces the cost. After all, the price of krill oil is several times that of fish oil.

What is more worrying is that some krill oil brands mix other ingredients to reduce the arsenic content. Although krill originates from the distant Antarctic pure land, krill itself has a high arsenic content. If the raw material selection and processing are not fine enough, it is easy to cause the problem of excessive arsenic content in the product. Therefore, adding other ingredients has become an "effective" means to reduce the arsenic content, but the purity of krill oil is also greatly reduced. So this is a completely seemingly effective but actually completely ineffective operation method that does not benefit consumers at all.

Looking ahead, Chiti will take a rigorous approach to sampling and investigating krill oil brands on the market and send them to third-party testing agencies for inspection. We look forward to the krill oil market entering a professional and orderly environment as soon as possible.
